A 34-YEAR-old man has been accused of drink driving while travelling more than 40km/h over the speed limit on the Brooker Highway in Hobart’s northern suburbs.

Police allegedly detected the driver, from Austins Ferry, travelling at 127km/h in an 80km/h speed zone at Rosetta on Sunday night and, upon intercepting him, conducted a breath test.

The driver was taken to Glenorchy Police Station, where a breath analysis returned a reading of 0.216, police allege.

The man was charged with drink driving and speeding, his vehicle was clamped for 28 days, and he received an instant two-year licence disqualification.

He will appear in court at a later date.

Acting Sergeant Ann Edge, from Southern Road and Public Order Services, said any motorist doing the wrong thing ran the risk of being caught.

“I would like to take this opportunity to remind the public that Tasmania Police could be anywhere at any time, and if you are doing the wrong thing you will get caught,” she said.
