A young Bagdad man accused of grooming and abusing teenage girls through Snapchat has made a plea in his case – while fresh details of his alleged offending were aired in court.

Bradley Graham Paul Cate, 23, appeared in Hobart Magistrates Court on Tuesday, where he pleaded not guilty to all counts before him to Magistrate Andrew McKee.

Cate is alleged to have groomed three teen girls through the photo sharing application Snapchat from July 1, 2022 to January 15, 2023.

Among his charges include a count of rape, three counts of grooming with intent to procure a child or young person for sexual abuse, and two counts of indecent act with a child or young person.

Cate is also charged with three counts of penetrative sexual abuse of a child or young person.

Police allege Cate groomed the three girls before later going on to sexually abuse one of them.

Court documents previously seen by the Mercury alleged one girl, who was the subject of the unlawful sexual intercourse charge, was under the age of 17.

He is also charged with and pleaded guilty to multiple counts of driving while suspended.

Cate’s lawyer Cameron Scott told the court that part of the allegation of the indecent act – sexual intercourse with a girl – had happened in Cate’s vehicle, which was connected to one of the driving while suspended charges.

Among his other charges include supplying cannabis and alcohol to one of the girls.

Cate was bailed to a date in August to the preliminary proceedings list.
