A Hobart man accused of more than a dozen counts of possessing child abuse material, as well as producing the depraved content has fronted court.

The man, aged in his 50s, appeared in person before Magistrate Marcia Duvnjak on Friday.

The man is facing a total of 20 charges including but not limited to 11 counts of possess child abuse material obtained or accessed using a carriage service, and two counts of produce child exploitation material.

Court documents state the man’s alleged offending spanned multiple dates across almost two decades.

The first of his two counts of producing child exploitation material (CEM), is alleged to have happened at Sandy Bay on dates between December 12, 2005 and January 13, 2006.

The second is alleged to have happened again at Sandy Bay between December 21, 2006 and February 4, 2007.

The remaining charges are said to have allegedly occurred at Montrose on dates in 2019, 2021 and 2022.

In court Sam Dymock of the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions said some of the charges, which included counts of access child abuse material using a carriage service and possess child abuse material obtained or accessed using a carriage service, were new complaints filed by the Commonwealth.

The man’s lawyer asked for an adjournment to “consider” both of the new complaints, of which it was their client’s first appearance on.

Ms Duvnjak imposed the same bail conditions on the new complaints and bailed the man to appear again in August.

Outside of court, the man tried to cover his face as he was photographed.
