Neighbours speak after person shot at Gulfview Heights

Neighbours living near the site of a shooting in an Adelaide suburb have spoken of their fears, saying there are often concerning “characters” in the neighbourhood, as well as police.

Shooting at Gulfview Heights

Alarmed Gulfview Heights residents have revealed their fears after a home invasion that resulted in shots being fired on Thursday night.

Police were alerted to a serious incident on Brabham St where a group of people entered a home and shot a person in the leg about 4.45pm on Thursday.

Police said the gunshot victim was taken to hospital but their injury was not considered life-threatening.

On Friday, The Advertiser went to the scene and understands the victim has been discharged from the Royal Adelaide Hospital after surgery and is now at home.

Meanwhile, neighbours revealed their alarm over the perpetual police presence in the area, as well as concerns about the “characters” in the neighbourhood.

Resident Nick – who did not want his surname used – said he saw different people visit the home that was the subject of the attack.

“Those people have been living here for about 10-15 years,” Nick said. “Throughout that time, I’ve had their visitors park in front of my home... some of those people displayed very concerning, erratic behaviours.

“Other people on the street have also experienced similar things.”

However, Nick said he tried to stay out of “their business” in the hope they would not bother him.

Earlier, another neighbour told The Advertiser police were “always” in the area.

Neighbour Ben Colangelo said the house was always busy with people “coming and going”, and that there was always a police presence in the street.

“I’m not really surprised about it to be honest, considering … I don’t know … what’s been going on there,” he said.

“There’s always police here … always police here.

“Hopefully it comes to an end because I’m kind of just sick of seeing cops everywhere and just people coming and going.

“It's just not really safe for other people around, especially if there’s shots being fired.”

Mr Colangelo said he was coming home from work when he pulled into the street to find police everywhere.

Shooting interview

Police will allege a group of people broke in and discharged the firearm, injuring one person.

The suspects left the scene before police arrived. Early investigations into the incident allege that the attack was not random.

It comes on the same day SA Police arrested and charged three adults and three youths with attempted murder over an unrelated shooting at Andrews Farm in December 2021, where an innocent person was shot in the leg after his house was sprayed with bullets.

The six suspects were arrested as part of Operation Meld, with Acting Assistant Commissioner John De Candia alleging the suspects were linked to street gangs.

Operation Meld was set up by SAPOL to target youth street gangs.
