Women top the class at Tasmania Police Academy
Nineteen new constables are joining Tasmania Police’s ranks, including two women who topped the class. Find out where the new officers will be based.

FOR the second year in a row, women have taken out top places in the Tasmanian Police Academy’s constable graduates.
This years dux, Ellie Davidson, and dux runner-up, Sophie Malone, were two of nine women in the graduating class of 19.

Constable Malone says there was no gender divide in her mind.
“We all face the same challenges, and I think women are just as capable as men,” she said.
“Women can do exactly what men can do and it’s so great to see Ellie and I up here together.”
Constable Davidson said the 31-week course was difficult at times.
“It has been very challenging, definitely rewarding, but extremely challenging as well,” she said.

“The best bit was definitely making friendships along the way. Over the course we’ve become very tight.”
Police, Fire and Emergency Management Minister Michael Ferguson wished the officers well.
“These new officers will put their training and practical experiences into action and begin serving and protecting the community from next week,” he said.
The 10 men and 9 women will now take up posts at stations in Hobart, Glenorchy, Launceston, Devonport and Burnie.
