A Sydney woman has been winched to safety after a serious fall while hiking along one of Tasmania’s iconic walks.
The 29-year-old slipped and fell 3m to the base of Fergusson Falls at Cradle Mountain while walking along the Overland Track on Saturday.
The injured walker was winched from the scene about noon with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Luckily, the woman was part of a guided walking group, which was prepared for the journey, with a personal locator beacon, a SPOT beacon and a satellite phone.
Tasmania Police, Ambulance Tasmania and Westpac Rescue Helicopter Tasmania were all part of the rescue effort.
