POLICE have charged a teenager after he allegedly caused $200,000 damage in a fire at Kingston High School.
The fire, which broke out on Monday night, was quickly extinguished by Tasmania Fire Service crews who were already attending a fire in nearby scrub.
Tasmania Police today said an 18-year-old man had been charged with arson and trespass in relation to the blaze and would front the Hobart Magistrates court next month.
Fire investigators determined the blaze started after wood panels resting against Kingston High School’s futures building were set alight.
Kingston High School principal Libby Robinson said a number of school resources were lost in the fire including a box of anti-bullying T-shirts.
Police have thanked witnesses who came forward to assist with their investigation into the incident.
