Two men have been rushed to a Sunshine Coast hospital after being burned by chemicals on a construction site in the heart of Maroochydore.

Emergency crews were called to the job site on Future Way and Lightning Lane at 12.33pm.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said the men suffered burns to the face, arms and legs from some sort of chemical at the construction site.

One of the men was transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a potentially life-threatening condition.

The other man was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

One of the men is in his 20s.

Firefighters arrived at the incident about 12.50pm.

A Queensland Fire Department spokesman said they conducted some “atmospheric monitoring” before deeming the site safe.

A Workplace Health and Safety Queensland spokeswoman said the department was notified and attended the site.

“WHSQ are making inquiries into the matter,” she said.

“No further comment can be made at this time.”
