More details have emerged about the identity of the pair involved in a horror Bruce Hwy caravan crash that left a man dead and a woman with serious injuries.
Emergency crews responded to the crash between Roys Rd and Steve Irwin Way, about 11.20am today, to reports a Mazda ute towing a caravan had veered across multiple lanes and collided with a Toyota ute before going down an embankment.
A Queensland Police Service spokesman said the driver of the Mazda ute with the caravan, who died at the scene, was an 81-year-old Rockhampton man.
The police spokesman said his passenger is a 67-year-old Rockhampton woman.
She was taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.
A police investigation into the crash continues.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman earlier said paramedics treated three people at the crash, with two in a life-threatening condition.
A third person, the driver of the Toyota ute, was not physically injured.
Reports from social media claim a ute and the caravan became “tangled up” on the road before the crash.
A Queensland Police Service spokesman said the car had “slipped” off the road, ran down and embankment and ended up in a creek.
Investigations are ongoing and anyone with information or dashcam footage of the incident are urged to contact police.
Police said yesterday one northbound lane of the Bruce Hwy was closed, and the other was experiencing heavy delays.
At one stage, traffic had banked up for more than 4km south of the scene in the northbound lane.
People on social media were also reporting Steve Irwin Way and other detours were beginning to back up.
