Two people have spent a nerve-racking night stranded on the roof of their LandCruiser in croc-infested waters after attempting to pass through a flooded crossing in the Top End.

TWO people have spent a nerve-racking night stranded on the roof of their LandCruiser in croc-infested waters after attempting to pass through a flooded crossing in the Top End.
Northern Watch Commander Siiri Tennosaar said NT police and emergency services responded to a call for assistance when occupants of a LandCruiser attempted to cross the flooded Dingo Station River Crossing on Marrakai Rd, about 76km east of Darwin, and became stranded at about 9pm on Saturday.
“The vehicle was inundated with water, with the water level reaching the windows and the electrics on the vehicle failing,” she said.
The pair climbed onto the roof of the LandCruiser and saw crocodiles in the water during the night while awaiting assistance.
“Emergency Services personnel encountered issues launching a boat to assist them, and they were stranded until around 6am on Sunday, before being safely returned to dry land,” Cdr Tennosaar said.
“The incident serves as a timely reminder for motorists to avoid driving into flooded waterways, particularly where the depth of the water is not known.
