Police are on the hunt for 54 repeat offenders in Tasmania’s south, and by bolstering a Hobart crime squad, it’s hoped they’ll be able to bring them in.

Taskforce Saturate was created to deal with repeat offenders, and now there will be an extra four officers at the Hobart Police Station to target them.

“54 individuals have been identified and are currently wanted by police for two or more offences committed in Southern Tasmania,” Tasmania Police Hobart inspector John Toohey said.

“The goal of Taskforce Saturate is to target these repeat offenders, and when lawful, put them before the court.

“There is a small cohort of people within our community who continue to do the wrong thing.”

Insp. Toohey said members of the public could assist by reporting illegal or anti-social behaviour to police.

“Since 1 July 2023, Taskforce Saturate has arrested 124 people, with over 400 charges being laid against these repeat offenders,” Insp. Toohey said.

“The resulting charges include aggravated burglary, stealing, assault, breach of bail, firearm offences, drug offences, dangerous driving, evade police and disqualified driving.”
