The Department of Public Health secretary Kathrine Morgan-Wicks has tested positive to Covid and is now isolating at home.
Ms Morgan-Wicks’ result was confirmed on Tuesday afternoon.
“I am asymptomatic but undertook a PCR test this morning (Tuesday) following a member of my household developing mild symptoms and being confirmed as a positive case,” she said.
“I am currently well and will continue in my role as secretary and state health commander, working in isolation from home.”
Ms Morgan-Wicks’ household contacts are in quarantine as close contacts, but the health department said there were no exposure concerns identified which would lead to quarantine or testing of anyone else.
The state health commander spoke at a press conference on Monday alongside Premier Peter Gutwein and Public Health Director Mark Veitch.
The confirmation comes after Minister Guy Barnett was confirmed a positive case after a test on Saturday.
Tasmanian Government minister confirmed Covid-positive
Resource minister Guy Barnett has put his ministerial duties on hold after testing positive to coronavirus on Saturday.
In a release sent out on Monday it was revealed Mr Barnett received the result on Saturday and took precautions.
“I received the positive result on Saturday and I am now self-isolating at home with only mild symptoms,” Mr Barnett said.
“I have been on leave for the past week so have not been involved in meetings with staff or stakeholders during this time.”
As Mr Barnett recovers, he has temporarily put his duties on hold.
“My Ministerial duties had already been allocated to another Minister and this will continue to be the case whilst I remain on leave.”
No other government ministers have tested positive for the virus.
