Tens of thousands attend Latitude Festival in a first since UK lockdown

Two Aussie heavyweights of the alternative music scene and a raft of local talent have joined the line-up for the much anticipated Day on the Lawn music festival.

Heading back to Hobart’s Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens for its fifth edition, the one day music festival will host previously announced artists including Courtney Barnett and the DMA’s on March 19.

Local musicians Lennon Wells, Kaninna and The Outfit have also been added to the bill.

Mallrat burst onto the Aussie music scene in 2015 at just 16-years-old and has since gone on to support major artists such as Post Malone, Maggie Rogers, King Princess, Peking Duk and Allday at events across the world.

Organisers say Sydney six-piece band, Winston Surfshirt, will bring “seriously cool vibes to really get the party started”

In 2017, the band released their debut single, Be About You, which reached number one on the Australian Spotify Viral Charts.

A product of the 2020 pandemic, Lennon Wells started out with three members due to restrictions but later expanded to the six piece band.

“We can’t wait to play Day on The Lawn,” Ben Wells of Lennon Wells said.

The botanical gardens are always an amazing place for a show.

“We’re really excited to be performing with the likes of Courtney Barnett and DMA’s especially given we can play in front of a crowd with no restrictions.”

Kaninna is an indigenous singer/songwriter and creative born and raised in Tasmania.

Her sound is describes by festival organisers as “a smooth blend of rhythm and blues with a spicy pop edge.”

Rounding out the local additions, The Outfit has delivering high-energy performances of a multitude of soul and funk songs from the Motown classics of the early 60s to the pop classics of today.

Tasmania food and beverage staples will also be a part of the action with Taco Taco, Chan Bao, Munchies Street Emberbox or cooked skewers from Truffle Farm.

Tickets are on sale now online at OzTix.
