An alleged teen hoon has been captured by drone cameras doing ‘burnouts’ and a ‘high-speed wheel stand’ in suburbs on Hobart’s Eastern Shore.

Police have accused the 17-year-old motorcyclist, who was one his L-plates, of driving dangerously on Saturday night.

He’s been charged with serious traffic offences.

“The behaviour of the motorcyclist was reckless and extremely dangerous, and they’re lucky to have not been seriously injured or killed from their actions,” Tasmania Police Sergeant Andy McShane said.

Police are searching for the teen’s motorcycle, a blue Yamaha YZF-R6 with Tasmanian registration A377U, which they plan to seize.

Meanwhile an 18-year-old motorcyclist has been charged with several driving related offences after he was allegedly caught “dangerously conducting a prolonged burnout” at Montagu Bay.

His vehicle has been clamped for a month.

Both charges were able to be made thanks to drone video technology.

“It’s pleasing to see that drones are assisting police to detect and remove unsafe motorists from our roads, however, it’s disappointing that some motorists continue to drive and ride dangerously which puts themselves and others at risk” Sergeant McShane said.

“Police will continue to deploy drones across the state, to assist in investigations, and detect and deter unsafe motorists and those who commit anti-social behaviours.”
