A GOLD Coast City Council horticulturalist was so incensed by his co-worker’s poor parking in a staff car park he bent the side mirror and windscreen wipers, causing $250 damage.

“When I bent the mirror I never intended to damage the car – I intended to mess with him psychologically,” Simon John Williams told the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.

“I was just annoyed by the way he was parking.

“He was parking over the centre line.

“I was very annoyed that he thought himself more important than everyone else.”

Williams pleaded guilty to wilful damage.

A Gold Coast City Council horticulturalist was so incensed by his co-worker’s poor parking in a staff car park he bent the side mirror and winscreen wipers, causing $250 damage.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Pam Rhodes told the court the co-worker had parked at the Pimpama council depot before work on July 29.

Williams parked his car about four spaces down a short time later.

She said he saw the black Toyota and forcefully pushed back the side mirrors and bent the windscreen wipers.

Sen Const Rhodes said Williams did not know the owner of the car.

She said the car’s owner had to remove the wing mirror’s bolts and re-bolt it to the car in order to drive home that night.

‘HE KILLED MUM BUT WE FORGIVE’

Part of the car’s panel was also warped due to Williams bending the mirror.

Sen Const Rhodes said Williams spoke to police in September and told them he did it because the car was parked over two parking spaces and it “annoys him”.

Williams, who represented himself in court, said he did not bend the wipers up but had merely placed them up gently.

He said he also had no intention of damaging the car.

The 38-year-old said he had been on contract working as a horticulturalist and bush regenerator at the Gold Coast City Council.

He said his contract finished on Friday and it had not been renewed.

Williams told the court he was not receiving benefits.

Magistrate Catherine Pirie fined Williams $200 and no conviction was recorded.

She said she took into account that Williams had lost his contract and was effectively receiving no income.
