The tips to making great Fish and Chips

The Gold Coast is hooked on fish and chips, but who fries the best of all?

After hundreds of nominations we have found our top 30 finalists and now it is time to crown the winner.

Last year, a Robina family food truck outshone their bigger rivals to be named best in the city.

Small Fry owner and head chef Braden Ceccato shared the crucial three steps in creating the best fish and chips.

“One, you need to have a light crispy batter. Two, homemade tartare sauce. Three, the freshest possible fish.”

Small Fry has plenty of competition this year, with hundreds of loyal diners taking part in the nominations process.

Resident Johnno Mills said Fresh Coral Seafoods in Mudgeeraba was his catch of the day.

“A hard-working young family that are passionate about the food they plate up for you,” he said.

Others nominated Nerang’s Spencers Seafood for its “tasty” snapper and chips.

Vote for your favourite fish and chip shop in the poll below.
