Creamy vanilla slices topped with hot caramel or seasonal fruit is always a popular choice, but a local patisserie says the traditional vanilla slice remains a crowd favourite.

Little Missy Patisserie has provided Hobart with freshly baked vanilla slices since 2014 and a selection of tasty slices has gained the patisserie a loyal customer base who never tire of the creamy custard and crispy layers of pastry.

The tasty slices have been voted among the states very best in the Delicious. 100 Best of the Best and is in the running to be named the finest vanilla slices in Tasmania.

Little Missy Patisserie owner and chef Oonagh Murphy said the slices are prepared every two hours and have the perfect amount of sweetness to them.

“It’s a great reward for all the love and effort that goes into it what we’re doing here … and the vanilla slice is one of the cornerstones … I think because it’s done fresh to order,” said Ms Murphy.

“I think that’s the elixir or the secret.”

“We balance the sweetness with toppings … a creamy Monte Carlo cream and then we just put the passionfruit powder dust and the crispy elements like caramel shards and fruit on top.”

This year’s competition is seeking out the very best of affordable and everyday foods for all to enjoy including sushi, pies, croissants and doughnuts.

For the first time Delicious. will crown the top eateries in Tasmania, as well as New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Victoria.

Voters can now see the top five nominations in each category and vote for the favourite eats and treats via themercury.com.au and in the Saturday Mercury’s TasWeekend magazine.

Winners from the voting phase will be announced on November 4.

Cast your vote before November 3.
