COVID-19 restrictions Tas: What you can, can’t do on Mother’s Day

With coronavirus putting a dampener on all family gatherings, we’ve put together a helpful guide for what you can and can’t do this Mother’s Day — and where you can find last-minute gifts!

Australia plots three-stage plan to reopening

The greatest gift mum can get this Mother’s Day is a visit from loved ones — within the current social distancing rules, of course.

Unfortunately for Tasmanians, this means Mum will only get two visitors, as long as the visit fits in with the ‘social support’ criteria.

For residents with mums in nursing homes, the good news is you’ll be able to visit on Monday for a belated celebration.

From Monday, May 11, Tasmanian aged care homes will be allowed one visit per week but no more than two visitors.

REVEALED: Tassie’s road map out of COVID-19 restrictions

It will be a very different Mother’s Day for Tasmanians this year.
It will be a very different Mother’s Day for Tasmanians this year.

It may be tough to swallow but Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein was firm on not budging on restrictions too soon.

“I think the best Mother’s Day present that anybody could provide their mother is to keep them safe,’’ Mr Gutwein said earlier this week.

“I know that a lot of Tasmanians would have liked to have gone into the nursing homes on the weekend and provide both a present and spend time with their mother.

“I would ask Tasmanians to accept that the reason that the rules are in place is to keep their mother safe.”
