REVEALED: Tassie’s road map out of COVID-19 restrictions

RESTAURANTS, cafes, playgrounds and libraries could re-open in Tasmania within 10 days under a plan to ease coronavirus restrictions in Tasmania.

Under stage one of a road map to recovery, outlined by Premier Peter Gutwein on Friday, will also see gatherings increase to 10 people for indoor and outdoor, including real estate, small religious gatherings and weddings, from May 18.

Community and local government facilities and libraries are allowed to open for up to 10 people from that date, as is park and exercise equipment and playgrounds, pools and boot camps open for up to 10 people.

From May 25, kindergarten to Year 6 students and those in Year 11 and 12 will return to learning at school.

High school students from Years 7 to 10 will return to learning at school on June 9.

Aged care visits will move to national restrictions of two visitors, once a day from May 25.

Tasmanian racing is set to resume by June 13, subject to a review by Public Health.

“The road map that were outlined has three main stages and a few milestones along the way,” Mr Gutwein said.

“Most importantly the easing of restrictions will continue to be based on Public Health advice.”

Under stage two, gatherings of up to 20 people will be allowed for indoor and outdoor gatherings, including restaurants, cafes, cinemas, museums, galleries and weddings from June 15.

Camping, overnight boating and shacks, funeral gatherings of up to 50 people will be enabled from the same date, along with beauty services for up to 20 people.

Gyms and boot camps for up to 20 people will also be allowed, while open homes and auctions can resume with 20 people.

Outdoor and community sport is expected to resume from that day also.

Stage three, from July 15, will see gatherings of 50-100 people allowed, aged care homes allow five visitors at a time.

At this time, the reopening of bars, nightclubs and casinos will be considered.

Markets are also expected to open from July 15, subject to Public Health advice.

Border controls will remain in place through all stages.

“Our border controls will remain in place (from June 15),” Mr Gutwein said.

“I know it’s been difficult on people, but it’s important we continue to follow the rules and continue to take Public Health advice and importantly as we take these steps, we all maintain those simple rules about our own personal hygiene and social distancing.”

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has said “every Australian matters, every life, every future” during his address to the nation about how life begins returning to normal.

Mr Morrison, speaking after chairing the National Cabinet meeting in Canberra, said the country’s leaders agreed to a three-step plan that enabled Australia to “walk before we run”.
