NOT many children have received a birthday greeting as big and as special as six-year-old Harper Murphy.
When Harper’s dad Dan, who lives in Victoria, learnt current border restrictions would prevent him from visiting his daughter on her birthday, he started thinking of a way to still be able to make a big impact on her day.
Unable to be there in person for Harper’s special day on Tuesday, Mr Murphy arranged for local mobile advertising company Circuit Media to turn up outside Harper’s South Hobart home with a giant billboard wishing her a happy birthday.
“Now that I live in Melbourne, I always try to go that extra mile for my kids and try to instil that philosophy in them to make a positive impact where they can,” he said.
“I don’t really know how I came up with the billboard idea. I had inquired about the idea with another company who thought I was crazy. Glenn at Circuit Media saw what I was trying to do and helped me out tremendously.”
Harper said she had never experienced such a surprise before saying “it was the best”.
“I had no idea that I would get something like that. But Dad does know how to make me feel special,” she said.
She said her birthday this year topped the lot.
“I’ll remember this year’s birthday for the presents, the huge sign and music,” she said.
“I feel happy. It was the best birthday ever.”
