Another Tasmanian has died with Covid – the 64th recorded since the pandemic started.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said a man in his 60s had died at a residential aged care facility in northern Tasmania.
He said Tasmania recorded 817 new cases overnight.
“I extend my sincere condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the man who has sadly passed away,” Mr Rockliff said.
“As I have said in recent weeks, we can unfortunately expect further deaths from Covid as the occurrence and peak in Covid deaths typically occurs up to a month after the peak in community cases.
“This reflects the later peak in illness among older persons and the clinical course of severe illness due to Covid.”
There are currently 6,090 active cases with 47 people in hospital including one person in intensive care and 22 patients being treated specifically for Covid.
Mr Rockliff urged Tasmanians to get vaccinated and follow Covid safe behaviours.
