UPDATED 6.30pm:
A YOUNG woman who was in hotel quarantine in Hobart has tested positive to COVID-19 and is being treated in hospital.
Acting Director of Public Health Dr Scott McKeown said the Public Health Services were conducting contact tracing when he confirmed the case on Monday evening.
This brings the State’s total to 227 cases.
Further information will be provided on Tuesday.
Dr McKeown said any Tasmanian with cold or flu-like symptoms such as a cough, sore throat, runny nose, or fever should contact their GP or call the Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738 to arrange testing for coronavirus.
EARLIER:
A POSSIBLE case of coronavirus is being investigated in southern Tasmania, Premier Peter Gutwein has announced.
Mr Gutwein said the case was not yet confirmed, but was suspected to be a positive COVID-19 case, detected at one of the hotel quarantine facilities being used by the State Government.
In a coronavirus update address on Monday afternoon, the Premier again reiterated his stance to show caution on border restrictions, saying he would be guided by Public Health advice.
Mr Gutwein is expected to provide an update on plans for the state’s border restrictions this Friday.
Tasmania has had 226 confirmed cases of coronavirus, but the last confirmed case was recorded more than two months ago, on May 15.
Mr Gutwein would not reveal which hotel quarantine facility the suspected case was detected at.
More to come.
