SWEEPING changes have seen Tasmania’s pristine national parks and reserves close to stop the COVID-19 spread.
The Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife service conducted closures across all parks and reserved lands from March 26 for community safety.
PWS said the move was in line with Tasmanian and Federal government measures to discourage non-essential travel.
“All activities including day or overnight walks, mountain biking, hunting, other recreational activities and camping are now closed to the public until further notice,” PWS said.
The authority has increased signage at park and reserve locations to inform the public of closures.

Environment and Parks Minister Roger Jaensch said Tasmanians had to work together to stop the coronavirus spread.
“We know that many Tasmanians feel a connection to our parks and natural spaces,” he said.
“But for public safety reasons this is not the time to travel and undertake recreation activities – especially during the upcoming school holidays.”
Rangers have asked campers to seek alternative accommodation via private providers and community services.
The closures will remain in place until further notice, with all non-emergency parks aircraft landings and ferry services ceasing operations.
All PhD research work on parks and reserve lands have also been suspended until further notice.
Updated information on reopening dates will be available at parks.tas.gov.au
Anyone who sees someone still entering parks and campgrounds can report noncompliance to Tasmania Police on 131 444.
