'You can't do that': Mum unable to use her car after infuriating parking act

After someone suggested she just "climb through and reach over the seats" she replied, "I'm pregnant and shouldn’t have to do that to access my own car."

Mum unable to use her car for hours after 'infuriating' parking act

There’s nothing worse than coming onto the street and seeing a car has parked you in.

We’ll try to squeeze out of the spot, narrowly avoiding any scrapes, but one mum couldn’t even open her boot on the weekend after her neighbour’s ‘frustrating’ act, let alone get out of the spot.

Pregnant mum Mahlea Shayne approached her car on her suburban Sydney street on Sunday, ready to get some cleaning supplies out of her 4WD and “get ahead for the week”, but was met with a rude surprise.

"You can't do that"

She spotted an unknown car parked super close to the back of her own, maybe three to five centimetres away, leaving her unable to get into the boot and retrieve the belongings she needed.

“I need to open my boot,” she says in a viral TikTok clip. She then zooms in on the tiny space between the car and the spare tyre on the back of her car and jokes, “This is how close I am to losing my f**king shit.”

“You can’t do that. Why would you park someone in like this?” she continued. “How do you expect me to get out of here?”

The expectant mum said in the comments that the rude driver not only parked her in, but they also parked over a driveway behind them.

“I parked at the end of the street with enough space to reverse out as there’s a driveway behind me. He’s parked over the driveway and blocked me in,” she said.

And she wasn’t just cut off for a short amount of time. Mahlea said she came onto the street at about 9 a.m. to find she was parked in and the person didn’t move their car until 5 p.m.

At one point in the day, she managed to catch the offender but failed to get him to move the car due to a misunderstanding during their quick interaction.

“He said, ‘Oh sorry, I’ve parked a bit close’ and then walked off. I didn’t say anything because I thought maybe he’s gone for a quick coffee, but nope,” she said.

"The amount of anger I feel"

In the comments, people felt her pain.

“My pregnancy rage wouldn’t let me not slam that right open 😭🤣,” one woman wrote. “I probably would’ve still opened my boot, to be honest,” another agreed.

“People do that to me at school drop off/pickup… the amount of anger I feel,” chimed in another mum.

Others had suggestions for the mum, with some being better than others…

“That's happened to me. I called the police and gave them the number plate, and the police called the car owner and told them to come and move their car,” one Aussie said.

Someone else wrote, “I’d call the tow trucks on people for doing this. An impound fee and a new set of tyres will generally end that behaviour for good.”

“Let the tyres down yourself,” someone else urged.

Then, a different commenter suggested climbing through and reaching over the seats. Mahlea replied, “I’m pregnant and had to retrieve a vacuum. I shouldn’t have to do that to access my own car.”
