THERE may be no Dark Mofo festival this year, but Tasmanians can still enjoy a taste of the Winter Feast at home.

Organisers of the popular winter event have put together a series of Solstice Dinner Packs, giving food-loving Tasmanians an opportunity to gather some mates and eat, drink and count down to the winter solstice on June 21.

Designed by Winter Feast and Hanging Garden Green Grocer curator Jo Cook, the food packs feature everything from cheese and crusty bread to empanadas, spicy pork tacos, roast lamb with fire-roasted vegies, oysters and desserts, washed down with beer, spiced cider or soft drinks.

The packs range in price from $89 to $129 and are designed to feed two to four people.

“Many people look forward to the Winter Feast each year,” Ms Cook said.

“So this is an invitation to join us in supporting our quality Tassie produce community by ordering one of our Solstice Dinner Packs to enjoy at home on the longest, darkest night of the year.

“We’ve gathered some Winter Feast favourites like DIY S’mores from Krumbies, cheese fondue from Bruny Island Cheese Co., and lamb from Mona’s Heavy Metal Kitchen, and the Solstice Dinner Packs also include fresh produce, baked goods and condiments from Hanging Garden Green Grocer stallholders.”

Tassie wines from local retailer Cool Wine can also be added.

The Winter Feast at Princes Wharf 1 is the centrepiece of the annual Dark Mofo festival, which started in Hobart in 2013. As well as being loved by locals, the festival attracted 20,000 interstate visitors last year but was cancelled this year due to coronavirus.

The packs are available to order until June 16 (unless sold out earlier), with collection in Hobart on June 19 and 20. Wine packs and special release spirits can be shipped nationally.
