‘Where are the carbs’: Mum slammed for preschoolers’s keto lunchbox

“I always start with a source of protein and then build with healthy ingredients from there,” the mum-of-two explains in a viral video.

Every parent in the world can probably agree, feeding kids healthy, tasty food with plenty of variety is a struggle.

And even if you find some food that one kid likes, if you have another kid, it’s pretty much the law that they’ll detest everything their sibling likes.

If this is not your situation, SHHHHHH because I’m not interested in hearing about your fancy kids and their fancy adventurous palates, ok?

Mealtimes are usually a fight in my house and if they’re not at yours, I hate you.

But I digress.

At Sarah Stevenson’s, mealtimes lovely, serene experiences during which her kids eat curried boiled eggs made with bone broth mayonnaise and mashed avocado on seedy crackers.

Unsurprisingly, the internet had a strong reaction to a recent lunchbox video.

“I have shared quite a bit of our food journey as a family and how I have encouraged my kids to not only eat, but truly enjoy healthy foods,” she said in a YouTube short.

Sarah Stevenson shares toddler’s lunchbox

Sarah getting her kids to eat has been a process.

“All of this began from that day that I introduce solids through baby-led weaning.

“I acknowledge and respect my son’s different taste preferences, foods he dislikes and cuisines he gravitates towards and have always maintained an open conversation about what whole, healthy foods do for our body and why we are blessed to eat such nourishing foods,” she said.

What no shouting until they miserably eat two bites and then go to bed hungry? Actually I wouldn’t mind having Sarah come round and hang out with my kids.

Sarah showed how she mashed boiled eggs with curry powder and “high quality” bone broth mayonnaise and popped it in her son Fox’s bento box.

She added low sugar berry yoghurt topped with pepita seeds and added some cucumber and carrot sticks.

Cut fruit when in a separate container for snack time.

The final piece of the preschool lunchtime puzzle was a seedy cracker topped with smashed avocado which Sarah said would be added in the morning so it didn’t get soggy overnight.

Fans critical of Sarah Stevenson’s preschool lunchbox

Some people were impressed with the preschooler’s lunchbox.

“If I served my son Navy this, he would throw it in the bin and steal the other kids’ lunches. So amazing Foxy eats like this,” one fellow influencer wrote.

Many took issue with the meal not being balanced.

“Why not have the egg salad in a sandwich?” asked one person. “Where are the carbs.”

“Just wonder why there is minimal carbs for a growing boy?” said another.

“Am not trying to judge you, I am really curious. Are you actually giving four eggs for lunch to your five-year-old?” a third person wondered.
