TASMANIANS hoping to sneak off to the rugged and elemental West Coast have been urged to “book now” before the floodgates open to mainland crowds.
Strahan Holiday Retreat manager Jeanette Hunt has watched bookings suddenly skyrocket after the government’s Make Yourself At Home vouchers were issued.
As the state enters school holidays, the accommodation manager said a busy couple of weeks was coming up for family stays.
“It’s just so lovely to see people coming to the West Coast,” she said.
“They’ve lived here all their life but never come here – they’re so blown away by how beautiful the West Coast is.”
She said the Gordon River Cruise, West Coast Wilderness Railway and Hogarth Falls were family drawcards.
FUNDING WINDFALL TO BOOST TASSIE TOURISM
RACT Destinations Andrew Paynter said Strahan was among the most sought after destinations for local tourists heading into summer, along with favourites Freycinet and Cradle Mountain.
“We’re optimistic that this summer will see Tasmanians explore the state and help support regional communities,” he said.
“We’re encouraging Tasmanians to book now, because once the borders open we’re expecting interstate visitors to make a welcome return to Tassie.”
Premier Peter Gutwein last week announced interstate travel could return as soon as the end of October.
