JETSTAR has introduced new flights from Hobart to a popular interstate destination, celebrating today’s announcement with a flash sale.
Tasmanians looking to escape to a warmer slice of paradise will be able to fly between Hobart and the Gold Coast from December.
The news comes in light of the state government’s recent announcement borders will open to some states from October 26.
Jetstar Group CEO Gareth Evans said he was excited to “reconnect family and friends” from across the Strait.
“This new service will also help to boost tourism in Hobart, creating jobs and supporting the local economy, and means more of our people are back at work, which is great news too,” he said.
From December 1 the return flights will operate on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays departing Gold Coast at 3pm and departing Hobart at 7.20pm seating up to 1,200 passengers each week.
The 24 hour flash sale for tickets will open at midday today on Jetstar’s website, offering discounted fares from $89 one-way.
But locals will have to hurry to secure their spots, with only 1,500 places open for the discounted fares.
The sale will offer discounts for certain travel periods between early December and June 2021.
A Jetstar spokesman said the team would monitor bookings through the day and consider launching another sale if today was a success.
“We predict our low fares service will be popular with Tasmanians looking for a short few days away and travellers on a longer break taking time to explore the stunning beaches, hinterland region and local food and nature trails that the Gold Coast has to offer,” Mr Evans said.
More flights will also be introduced on existing Jetstar routes which previously operated three times per week.

Hobart and Adelaide will jump from five weekly services while seven weekly commutes will operate between Hobart and Brisbane.
Launceston and Brisbane will operate six times a week.
Jetstar said plans for travel to and from NSW were underway for up to 21 weekly services between the capitals from November.
Qantas will introduce daily flights to Sydney as early as October 30 depending on government restrictions.
Jetstar has not run flights between Hobart and the Gold Coast since 2013, with no other commercial airline currently operating the route.
