What the warming of Antarctica means for us

TASMANIANS have been handed the hottest ticket to the coolest continent with access to a day of world-class sightseeing.

There are 218 tickets up for grabs for RACT Travel customers to grab before November 9.

The flight – from Hobart International Airport on January 30, 2022, and which will take 12 to 14 hours – will put locals in the skies over Antarctica, with at least four of those hours dedicated to flying over the ice.

RACT state sales manager Christine Benbow said it would be only the second Antarctic sightseeing flight departing Hobart since 1994, with locals usually forking out extra to fly to Melbourne or Sydney before they can make the trip to the far south.

“There have been so many people have their travel plans disrupted this year,” Ms Benbow said.

“By bringing this opportunity to Tasmania we’re hopefully giving people the opportunity to see Antarctica and to be able to tick it off their bucket list.”

“I assure you this is a unique opportunity – it will sell out by the 9th of November,” Ms Benbow said.

The carbon neutral flight will include meals, premium drinks, onboard talks from expeditioners and live crosses with research stations.
