For the first time since March, a Glenorchy not-for-profit nursery has reopened its doors and they are hoping to lure back customers with a fundraising plant sale.
The Understorey Network is a community nursery based in Tolosa Park and was forced to close due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Conservation Volunteers Australia state manager Renae Riviere said nursery staff were excited for the recent opening and were keen to welcome new customers.
“We are really excited to open again and welcoming customers old and new,” she said.
The nursery specialises in native species, including trees, shrubs and grasses, and all proceeds
go towards the ongoing running costs.
Daniel Page has been volunteering at the nursery for a year and a half and said the nursery does some great work.
“It’s all about providing native plants for the community,” he said.
“It’s really one of the good volunteer organisations helping with re-vegging some of the states native grasslands and they do other projects.”
Daniel used to study botany at the University of Tasmania, but had to stop due to a health condition.
“Because of my disability I can’t do what I used to do, so I volunteer there now so I can continue my interest in botany and native plants and give back to the good cause of growing native plants,” he said.
Understorey Network Nursery is having its fundraising sale from August 29 to the 31 between 10.30am and 2.30pm at Tolosa Park, Glenorchy.
