A mother has issued an impassioned plea for younger mums who are “hating” on older mums while celebrating Mother’s Day, just because they’re older.
Biba, a mum-of-three and grandmother from the US, had her children when she was very young.
Now, as a grandmother, Biba has noticed a shift in attitude towards older mums on Mother’s Day, and she’s fed up.
“All I see are young mamas out there hating on their mamas”
“OK, I have been scrolling on TikTok, and all I see … is these young mamas out there hating on their mamas and their mother-in-laws for Mother’s Day,” she said in the now-viral video.
She complained that new mums “do not want to come and see” the older mothers and grandmothers, and always come up with a reason for it.

“They do not want to come and see us,” she said. “At all."
So, they say it is their day. “We need to take a seat in the back and let them have their day.”
She stressed that she “completely understands where they’re coming from”, as new mums often feel like the world is against them.
However, she argued that older mothers and grandmothers shouldn’t be tossed aside, just because they’re older.

The American woman recalled the days when she raised her three children with “no help” whatsoever.
“I was a young mum, I was 21 and had three young babies,” she said.
Living “across the country”, she had no family to help her out while wrangling three babies “back to back to back.”
As such, she recognised that new mums were incredibly stressed.
“You’re tired; you’re changing diapers; you’re in the trenches of it,” she said.
“But we are still mums,” she said. “You do not just stop being a mum. You still worry just as much. You still mother just as much.”
While older mums may worry about things in a “different way”, she stressed that parents of all ages “are still doing all those things.”
What Biba couldn’t wrap her head around was the “hate” the “old mums” were receiving ahead of Mother’s Day.
It was blatant ageism, in her opinion.
“You’ll see when you get older. Yeah, you’ll see when your kids are older,” she said.
“It’s just a different kind of, it just changes a little bit.
“Yeah, you’re not changing those diapers, but believe you me, you are mothering.”

“We, as young mums, are forgotten and overlooked”
While her video attracted plenty of sympathetic and supportive comments, she was flooded by new mums outraged by her attitude.
“It’s because we, as young mums, are forgotten,” a parent wrote.
“We are overlooked; we are expected to celebrate the grandparents and great-grandparents and no one celebrates us.”
“The criticism from the older generations is just me, me, me;” said another.
“Young mums just want the ability to focus on themselves for once without being made to feel guilty about it.”
But others couldn’t agree with Biba more.
“We’ve always gone to my Grandma’s,” read a comment.
“All of us. Her kids, grandkids, and now great-grandkids. I don’t understand not wanting all the moms to be together.”
“Once a mum, always a mum,” said another.
