THERE is no minimum spend required for the new government funded travel voucher scheme, says the Small Business, Hospitality and Events Minister.
Tasmanian families will be able to claim up to $550 towards an intrastate holiday as part of a plan aimed at rejuvenating the state’s tourism economy.
The $7.5m Make Yourself At Home state government travel initiative offering accommodation and experience vouchers will run from September through to the end of November.
Small Business, Hospitality and Events Minister Sarah Courtney encouraged all Tasmanians to make the most of the new scheme.
“I call on Tasmanians to make the most of this opportunity, and while they are out and about to support businesses by eating in local restaurants and cafes, having a drink at the local pub, and shopping at the local store,” she said.
Ms Courtney said there was no minimum spend required to use the vouchers.
“So it’s valid at a caravan park, your local motel or resorts — we’re making it accessible to all Tasmanians to do the type of travel that suits them and their families,” she said,
Tamar Valley Resort at Grindelwald general manager Damien Pinkerton said the resort’s Sunday to Thursday market was considerably down, with occupancy sitting at around 20 per cent.
Registrations for the vouchers open from 9am on September 7 via a yet to be announced hotline number or online at www.makeyourselfathome.com.au/voucher.
