A MEXICAN-style “summery garden fiesta” will bring street food and DJ music to In The Hanging Garden on Sunday afternoon.

Taking its cue from the popular “cantinas”, resident kitchen Mother Mexico will be offering traditional Mexican tacos, nachos, jalapeño poppers, fries, shared plates, and street snacks inspired by the iconic bars found across the country.

Mother Mexico has been created by St.J’s Deli founders Ben Korkmaz and Simon Krambousanos, who opened their New York-style sandwich deli this year.

“Street Mexican is so fun, vibrant and festive,” Mr Korkmaz said.

“Really fun and hand to mouth, easy and accessible.

“Grab a taco and a corona and be on your way, or have a shared platter with friends.

“The whole menu is gluten free and we have vegan, dairy-free and a full kids menu too.”

Mr Krambousanos said to expect a menu that was “loud, vibrant, fast, fresh and fun”.

The DarkLab event will also feature Mona DJ Martin Blackwell spinning Latin American vinyl.

The fiesta acts as an official launch for Mother Mexico, which will remain a resident kitchen for In The Hanging Garden for the next 18 months.

“We’re really looking forward to the fun and colour that Mother Mexico will bring to our resident kitchens in the Garden, serving up Latin American dishes for a quick lunch bite, or a longer dinner over drinks,” DarkLab Venues Director Jez Heath said.

“You can find them in the Garden’s dining area, alongside the ever-popular Oryza”.

The Mother Mexico fiesta will be held from 1-5pm on Sunday.
