Today co-host Ally Langdon abruptly disappeared from screens this morning, with Karl Stefanovic left to host the rest of the show alone.

Stefanovic revealed to viewers just before 7am on Monday that his co-host had gone home sick due to a “frog in her throat”.

“Welcome back to the show. Man down, man down,” Stefanovic said after a commercial break.

“Now, Ally has unfortunately had to go home. She’s got a very sizeable frog in her throat. She’ll be back on deck tomorrow. In the meantime it’s an empty seat,” he said.

Today presenter Brooke Boney joked that Stefanovic “looked more relaxed” hosting solo.

“Look she does put me on the edge. I never know what’s going to come,” he quipped.

Langdon’s mid-show departure comes after sickness last month plagued the hosts of Today’s rival breakfast program, Seven’s Sunrise.

David Koch left the Sunrise broadcast three hours early due to a health issue on May 3, with co-host Natalie Barr telling viewers was suffering with a bout of laryngitis.

“You may notice something slightly different,” she said to the camera.

“Kochie came in [and] he bravely fought on for about 25 minutes. He had laryngitis yesterday and apparently he’s still got it. He couldn’t really speak.”

Both Barr and Koch fell ill at the same time back in March, leaving Sunrise without both its usual hosts for a week as Barr battled a severe cold and Koch tested positive to Covid-19.

Covid scares have played out on breakfast television during the pandemic, with Today’s entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins among the first high-profile Australians to catch the virus back in 2020, sending his colleagues scrambling to contain the spread.

Since then, the other stars of Today have been struck down with the illness, with Stefanovic and his family contracting Covid over Christmas, while Langdon and Boney caught it after attending a March charity bash.
