Claims Ally Langdon privately complained to Nine boss over election snub

Ally Langdon and Karl Stefanovic have both suffered a brutal snub by their own network – now it’s been claimed Ally made her feelings known.

Today’s Ally Langdon is “aggrieved” over Nine’s election coverage snub and has complained to Nine’s director of news Darren Wick, it’s been reported.

Daily Telegraph columnist Annette Sharp today reported Langdon had privately “vented her frustration” over the decision to use Nine’s Melbourne newsreader Alicia Loxley for election night coverage instead of her.

But the Telegraph noted Nine has vehemently denied these claims, with a spokeswoman insisting there had been no “tantrum” from Langdon.

Langdon’s alleged private frustration comes as she and Today co-host Karl Stefanovic were dealt a massive blow by their own network, with The Australian’s Media Diary column recently revealing both were snubbed by Channel 9 after applying for the coveted gig of leading the network’s election night coverage on May 21.

Their regular interviews with Australian leaders were allegedly a major part of their pitch – but weren’t enough to get the pair over the line, Nick Tabakoff reported last week.

That’s despite the fact that Stefanovic also managed to pull off major interviews with both Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Labor Leader Anthony Albanese in the lead-up to the election for 60 Minutes – including Mr Morrison’s now-infamous ukulele stunt.

Instead, Nine has confirmed that the network’s election coverage will be fronted by stalwart Peter Overton, and Alicia Loxley, who replaces Deb Knight, who covered the 2019 election with Overton.

Bill Shorten and Julie Bishop have also been recruited as expert guests on the night.

Meanwhile, Langdon has been snubbed at this year’s Logie Awards, with the nominations announced today – she’s not up for anything, while Stefanovic is nominated for the coveted Gold Logie once more.

It comes as ABC News Breakfast upstaged Today every day last week, in an embarrassing upset that hasn’t occurred in 13 years.

The results saw Sunrise draw an average of 241,000 metro viewers for the week, ahead of ABC at 195,000 and leaving Today at 176,000.

This is after reports Stefanovic and Langdon were told to “shape up or ship out” after a disappointing 2021 spent struggling to keep up with competitors.

In January, the Sunday Telegraph reported that Nine executives were planning to throw “everything but the kitchen sink” at the Today show in 2022 to boost ratings and catch up to Sunrise.
