Shows sold out in Tasmania’s Dark Mofo ticket frenzy

TASMANIA’S edgy midwinter festival Dark Mofo is on track to smash its own sales records, after selling nearly a million dollars worth of tickets in six hours.
Pre-sale tickets were made available to Dark Mofo subscribers at 6pm Monday, with more than 15,300 tickets snapped up by keen patrons over the following six hours — translating to a box office take of $930,000.
So far, two thirds of tickets have been sold to interstate and international buyers, predominantly from Victoria and New South Wales.
Tickets were made available to the general public at 11am today, with more than 5000 people often in virtual waiting queues to buy tickets.
By 4pm today a total of 23,500 tickets had been sold, totalling $1.4 million in box office revenue.

More than 1000 people had registered for the masked ball; and 642 had signed on for the annual Nude Swim.
A number of events have already completely sold out, including the Laterne and Borderlands shows and performances by Nobody, Blixa Bargeld, Marlon Williams, Alice Glass, Zola Jesus, Tiny Ruins and Jess Ribeiro, Lydia Lunch and Weasel Walter, Jarboe and Father Murphy, Charlemagne Palestine, Laura Jean, Electric Wizard, Laurie Anderson, and Quartet for the End of Time.

This year is the first time Dark Mofo had introduced a subscriber pre-sale system for all festival events, in an attempt to take the pressure off waiting times and reduce the strain on the festival’s website.
