Rock ‘n’ roll music legends Queens of the Stone Age has been locked in as Mona Foma’s first act for a “kick ass” summer music festival.
The American rock band has put Hobart on the map on their Australian and New Zealand tour, officially being revealed as the first act for Mona Foma’s 2024 schedule.
Festival artistic director Brian Ritchie said he was beyond thrilled to welcome the international band to Tasmania.
“When one of rock’s most kick-ass and vital bands wants to visit Tasmania it is only natural for Mona Foma to be the host,” he said.
“Therefore we are rolling out the red carpet for Josh, Troy, Dean, Michael and Jon on a larger scale than their previous performance inside the museum.
“The Mona lawn will come alive with the symbiotic relationship between Queens of the Stone Age and their rabid following.”
Mona Foma will run over three weekends, returning to Hobart from February 15-25 and Launceston on February 29 to March 3.
The band emerged on the international music scene in 1996 but was originally called Gamma Ray before changing their name in 1997.
It’s been six years since Queens of the Stone Age toured the country following the release of their 2017 alum Villains. Now the band will be performing tracks from their latest album In Times New Roman on The End Is Nero tour, officially teasing the tour on social media a couple of days ago.
The band has announced it will be touring Perth, Adelaide, Hobart, Torquay, Melbourne, Sydney, Gold Coast and Brisbane, before flying over across the ditch to continue the tour in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
After recording their latest album, Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme revealed he had been diagnosed with cancer in 2022 and had surgery to remove it.
Mona Foma will be bringing high energy to their open air festival, with more international and local acts yet to be announced. Tickets for the full Mona Foma program are yet to be announced.
The first release of pre-sale tickets for Queens of the Stone Age will go on sale via LiveNation from Wednesday 25 October at 11am AEDT.
Tickets will be made available to the general public on Monday 30 October at 1pm AEDT.
