OVER 100 Tasmanian businesses are turning red this year as Dark Mofo festivities begin to light up the state’s capital.

In partnership with Dark Mofo and Destination Southern Tasmania, Tasmanian businesses were urged to jump on board the Paint the Town Red campaign in a bid to light up for the festival and give visitors to the state a warm welcome.

Destination Southern Tasmania CEO Alex Heroys said the rate of businesses turning red this year was up by 50 per cent on last year.

So far 116 businesses have registered through Dark Mofo’s website.

“We have been thrilled by the enthusiasm of the community to highlight the beginning of Tasmania’s winter festival season,” Mr Heroys said.

“Local businesses have lit up red or created something red for the duration of Dark Mofo. This also sends a welcoming message to visitors from within Tasmania, interstate and internationally.

“People are getting very creative this year, using red light bulbs, lanterns, decorations, paint, fabric and other red materials to adorn shopfronts, offices, public spaces and even private homes.”
