Former AFL star turned radio host Brendan Fevola has taken a subtle swipe at Kyle and Jackie O as they expand into the Melbourne.

Brendan Fevola has taken a subtle swipe at Kyle and Jackie O, as the pair enter the Melbourne radio market.

Fevola co-hosts Fox FM’s breakfast show, Fifi, Fev and Nick, which is currently the highest rated FM breakfast show in Melbourne.

But maintaining that lead just became a little bit tougher, thanks to The Kyle and Jackie O Show now being broadcast on KIIS FM in Melbourne as well as in Sydney.

News.com.au spoke to Fevola on Monday, and the former AFL star made it clear he thinks their show has one big advantage over Kyle and Jackie O … the fact they’re actually based in Melbourne.

“I was going to go to the KIIS station this morning and say congratulations (to Kyle and Jackie) but they were in Sydney, they weren’t in Melbourne,” he joked.

Fox FM's Fifi, Fev and Nick is the number one FM breakfast show in Melbourne.

When asked why Victorians should listen to Fox FM rather than KIIS FM, Fevola said: “Because we’re in Melbourne”.

Despite all that shade, Fevola and his co-hosts say they have no interest in starting a war of words with Kyle and Jackie O.

“We’re really proud of our show, and you know what, we’re not interested in sledging other shows and other people,” Fifi Box told news.com.au.

“I understand people wanting to provoke us into starting a fight but we just don’t want to. We’re a good natured show. We don’t want to go out and hurt people. We love our show, we’re really proud of it, and we absolutely think it is the best show in Melbourne,” Fifi said.

The trio are so focused on their own show that they insist they won’t respond if Kyle has a crack at them on air, something he’s done to many radio rivals over the years.

“What have I got to gain from that?” Fevola asked.

“I’m an ex-athlete … and the amount of sh*t you get spoken to on the footy field, if you bite back, then you lose focus.”

Kyle and Jackie O’s breakfast show is now airing in Sydney and Melbourne.

Kyle is adamant that The Kyle and Jackie O Show will be as successful in Melbourne as it is in Sydney, where they currently top the FM radio ratings.

“I don’t think it’ll be straight away, it’ll take a few surveys to crack them,” he told the Herald Sun. “But by the end of the year, yes (we’ll be number one).”

He’s also adamant that listeners in Melbourne won’t care about the fact The Kyle and Jackie O Show is broadcast out of Sydney.

“The world is so much smaller than it used to be,” he told Stellar. We’re listening to podcasts from all over the world.

“This whole fakeness of ‘the show’s not made in Melbourne’ … Well, guess what? Neither is the Today Show or Sunrise, but people still watch because people aren’t fu**king stupid. No-one thinks like that.”
