A PRIMARY schoolteacher’s story book breaking down big philosophies on the universe for his kids has gone international.
Blake Nuto said he wrote Child of Galaxies to help his children Teddy James Nuto, 7, Holiday Nuto, 5, and Marigold Nuto, 4, come to terms with the vastness of the universe.
“I wrote it when my third child came along,” he said.
“It was a very special time but my father had also passed away about a year earlier so it was also a time of grief.
“It stems from this idea of how big the universe is and that we’re made out of the same stuff as stars.
“It takes the big universal perspective into account and then tries to grasp what you can get out of life from that – I’ve tried to emphasise mindfulness and finding joy.”
Mr Nuto said he wrote the story in rhyme with added self-drawn illustrations of his children.
He said it wasn’t long before his self-published book was picked up and reillustrated by Flying Eye Books.
The Collegiate teacher said it was a “dream come true” to publish internationally to most English speaking countries.
Mr Nuto said he now has a contracts with the publisher and a new London-based agent.
“It’s a dream come true,” he said.
“People are posting on social media about how they connected to the story, it’s really nice validation.”
