Lark Distilling Co.’s new homegrown still boosts hand sanitiser output
A distillery, usually famous for its whisky, has just christened a new still capable of producing 1000L of high-grade alcohol a day, but it’s not for drinking – it’s for external use only.

LARK Distillery is world famous for its whisky – but its latest product is for external use only.
The company today unveiled its new column still, which will help it produce 1000 litres a day of high-grade alcohol to be used in the production of hand sanitiser.
At the launch of the new still, Lark Distillery founder and brand ambassador Bill Lark said the company has always been keen to embrace innovation.
“I guess the wonderful thing about Tasmania [is that] all our lives we’ve had to adapt to changing circumstances,” he said.
“It’s a tough environment, but one that I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else doing anything else, and to be able to jump in as quickly as we can is a sign of the wonderful people we have here in Tasmania.
“Producing hand sanitiser in such a short amount of time, working with other wonderful Tasmanian companies to achieve that, really does fill me with pride.
“I guess it’s a sense of what Lark has always been about: a belief that if you work with the community, the community will support you and together we can all grow.”
LARK DISTILLERY HAS TAKEN HOME A WIN
Premier Peter Gutwein described the towering still as a “work of art” and praised those involved in its construction.
He said difficult times brought out the best in Tasmanian industry.
“I think it’s a great fillip for the Lark Distilling Company, because I think it demonstrates the very best of Tasmania,” Mr Gutwein said.
“This is a fantastic example of what the future looks like in Tasmania – businesses innovating, demonstrating that we’re as good as anywhere in the country, as good as anywhere in the world. And importantly, providing local jobs for Tasmanians.
“I think that we’re going to see a lot of Tasmanian businesses, they’re going to demonstrate this level of innovation, this level of ingenuity in terms of a whole range of products over time as we come out of the pandemic.”
