LARK Distillery is making hand sanitiser for Tasmania’s frontline medical and essential services staff.
Dan Knight from Lark Distillery said this was only the second week of production and so far they’ve made 2000 litres which has gone predominantly to medical centres, hospitals and retirement villages.
Other bottles have been distributed to the prison, Tasmania Police, the fire service, SES, Metro and community services such as the Salvo and Colony 47.
“I’m really grateful to know we’re doing something to help,” Mr Knight said.
“To be able to pivot at a difficult time like this and to alleviate the immediate supply issue and shortage of hand sanitiser is very satisfying.”

Mr Knight said it was a very fast turn around from distilling gin and whisky to making hand sanitiser but they were following the World Health Organisation’s regulations and producing a product with above 80 per cent ethanol.
The biggest challenge, Mr Knight said, was getting enough supply of raw materials.
He said he hoped they could increase production and have product available to sell through the Lark cellar door on the waterfront soon.
