Toowoomba police dog Turbo is doing well after he was treated for stab wounds and a punctured lung, sustained while pursing a suspect yesterday.
PD Turbo is a 20-month-old general purpose police dog assigned to the Darling Downs District.
"We are pleased to report, PD Turbo is out of surgery and is recovering nicely. He is already up and about, bouncing round," a QPS spokesperson said.
"PD Turbo is now back with his relieved handler.
"All support is being given to his handler at this time.
"The Dog Squad and the Queensland Police Service would like to thank the community for their ongoing support."
Turbo and his 32-year-old handler were the first officers to arrive after a reported break and enter at a Warana Ave address.
It is understood the offender fled on foot and was intercepted at the corner of Jellicoe St and Glendower St, in Mt Lofty.
A 31-year-old Toowoomba man allegedly lunged at the officers with a pair of scissors, slashing the handler's face and stabbing him in the torso.
The man then proceeded to stab police dog Turbo multiple times in the chest.
The handler deployed his taser and the man was arrested by nearby officers.
Paramedics treated the man at the scene but he suffered a medical episode while en route to the hospital.
He died about 8pm, at St Vincent's Hospital.

Police Dog Turbo was transported to a local vet where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
The State Coroner has been advised and the Crime and Corruption Commission will provide independent oversight of the Ethical Standards Command investigation.
