Police arrest man after attempted ram raid at South St mechanic

Police allege the man stole a car from a Toowoomba address before attempting to force entry into a mechanic’s workshop.

HM Mechanical ram raid

A pair of young offenders was greeted by a growling, angry guard dog after they forced their way into H.M. Mechanical, in Harristown.

The bumbling duo had stolen a Kia Cerato from a Searle St address in Toowoomba and used it to ram the mechanic’s roller door about 10.20pm on Saturday.

The owner, Steve Berwick, was inside at the time.

“One of them was trying to squeeze through the door when my guard dog Hank started barking,” he said.

“They bolted.”

Police arrested an 18-year-old Gailes man on the Ipswich Motorway at Dinmore and charged him with burglary and unlawful use of vehicle.

Police will continue to investigate the ram raid.

As for Hank, the hero of the day, Mr Berwick rewarded him with a hamburger.

“A dog is the best security you can have,” he said.

Anyone with information about the offence should Policelink on 131 444.
