Emergency services called to multiple incidents across Toowoomba

Emergency services have responded to multiple incidents across Toowoomba including a ute that caught fire while towing a horse float a car that collided with a tree during a hailstorm and a crash between a car and a motorbike.

Emergency services have responded to multiple incidents across Toowoomba including a car fire and two crashes.

Queensland Fire Department crews were first called to respond to a vehicle fire on the Toowoomba Bypass that cut the flow of westbound traffic.

A QFD spokesman said a ute towing a horse float caught fire about 3.10pm Thursday, near the Cranley off ramp.

The horse and driver were able to make it safety while two QFD units went into action to extinguish the fire.

The fire was extinguished about 3.30pm and left in hands of police about 4.30pm as they waited on a float to pick up the horse.

About 4.46pm two QFD crews were called to James St, Harristown after a car collided with a tree.

The QFD spokesman said the male driver was encapsulated in the crash and fire crews were working to free him.

On the other side of town about 5.04pm emergency services were again called after a vehicle and motorbike collided near the intersection of Curzon and Ipswich streets in East Toowoomba.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said a female motorcyclist was injured in the crash, and after being treated by paramedics at the scene was taken to Toowoomba Hospital.

The city saw widespread hail Thursday afternoon as a line of storms stretching from the southeast to the state’s central west moved east for most of the afternoon.
