Multiple emergency service crews have been called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash on a major Darling Downs highway.

Queensland roads have witnessed 120 fatal crashes as of June 15, with data showing these fatalities are only increasing.

Initial reports indicate a truck and vehicle have collided on the New England Highway at Cooyar about 8am on Monday.

Queensland Police spokeswoman said the utility and truck collided near the Cooyar bridge.

The Cooyar bridge is restricted to one lane of traffic.

Queensland Fire Department crews went into action with hydraulic cutting gear to remove a male from the vehicle.

Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said the patient has been removed from the vehicle and is in a possibly critical condition with serious chest injuries.

Paramedics have taken the man to Toowoomba Hospital for further treatment, with the driver of the truck reported uninjured.

The QAS spokeswoman said the rescue helicopter has been stood down.

The QPS spokeswoman said the highway is now open in both directions.
