The Toowoomba mother of three said she sold cannabis so she could afford some for her own.

A Toowoomba mum caught dealing cannabis told police she had to sell the drug or she wouldn’t be able to afford her own.

Anita Wittington had been with others at a Toowoomba home subject to a police search on the afternoon of March 31, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

During the search police found 88.1g of cannabis, digital scales for weighing drug, a “tick sheet” of names and her mobile phone.

Police prosecutor Shelby Larcombe said the 42-year-old had provided police her phone’s PIN and officers found a range of drug related messages.

The mother of three told police she had been selling cannabis to others over the previous month, she said.

The phone messages suggested Wittington had sold in 3g, 7g and “half” amounts for prices ranging from $50 a 3g bag to $190 for a “half”.

Wittington pleaded guilty to 14 counts of supplying a dangerous drug and one count each of possessing a dangerous drug and drug related items.

It was during a police record of interview on April 4 that she told police she wouldn’t be able to afford her own cannabis if she didn’t sell the drug, Ms Larcombe said.

Her solicitor Joe Millican said his client instructed that the cannabis helped her sleep.

She had co-operated with police by providing her PIN which led police to the mobile phone messages, he said.

Magistrate Howard Osborne noted Wittington had been a long time user of cannabis and placed her on 15 months probation so she could get help to stop using it.
