Toowoomba Magistrates Court told more women have come forward with allegations against Nasir Ilyas Kicho

While a meat worker charged with abducting a woman outside a Toowoomba nightclub has denied all allegations against him, a court has been told more women have come forward to speak with police about his behaviour.

More women have come forward to report allegations of sexual assault against Nasir Ilyas Kicho, Toowoomba Magistrates Court has been told.

The 24-year-old Iraqi refugee was arrested on Saturday evening charged with deprivation of liberty and sexual assault.

Police allege he met a 36-year-old woman on Ruthven St near Toowoomba venue Bodega Bar about 11.45pm on Saturday and offered to drive her home.

It is further alleged that he instead drove her to an alternative address, took her inside and sexually assaulted her. Police also claim they were alerted after the woman contacted a friend.

Officers attended a Newtown address where they say they located the woman and Mr Kicho in the driveway.

Mr Kicho was held in custody ahead of a bail application in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Acting on his behalf, duty solicitor Ryan McCullough told the court that Mr Kicho came to Australia as a refugee and supports his wife and child who still live in Iraq.

The court was told Mr Kicho has several family members who remain prisoners of ISIS in Iraq.

He added that Mr Kicho also supports his mother and brother in Toowoomba and that the two men are meat workers.

“(My client) supports them daily partly because they don’t have a licence,” Mr McCullough said.

“They rely on him for transportation because he is the only person in the house with a driver’s licence.”

Mr McCullough told the court his client would consent to strict bail conditions including wearing an ankle bracelet and a curfew that prohibits going to Toowoomba’s Safe Night Precinct.

“These allegations are for the most part wholly denied, in particular the untoward physical contact with the complainant, but having said that I do concede that there is some strength to the Crown Case,” he said.

In objecting to the bail application, police prosecutor Julia Wheaton told the court that more women had come forward to report allegations after Mr Kicho’s arrests.

She added that he may be subject to further charges when investigators receive a toxicology report into the blood sample taken from the complainant.

Magistrate Kay Ryan rejected Mr Kicho’s bail, noting that he was already on bail for a sexual assault offence when he was alleged to have committed the fresh offence.

“I also have to consider that other victims have come forward,” she said.

Mr Kicho broke down and started crying when he heard he would be remanded in custody.

Speaking through a Kurdish-Kumanji interpreter, Mr Kicho denied all of the allegations.

“I swear by God’s name that these allegations did not happen, I did not do this,” he said.

“I helped that lady because she was on the street crying. I did not try to force her, kiss her or do anything to her.

“How long will I be in jail? My mother has no one else.

“Would be able to have my phone and contact my wife. I was captured that day, now I will be staying in jail.

“This is unfair.”

Mr Kicho’s case will be back in court on April 24.
