A sea of purple welcomed thousands of visitors to Goombungee on Saturday for the annual Jacaranda Day.
People had travelled from Mackay, Brisbane and the coasts to enjoy a warm, sunny day and line the main street of the town for the Jacaranda Day grand parade.
“We travelled from Redcliffe on the Cross Country Tour Bus for the day,” explained Laraine Hicks.
“We’ve got a bus full and we’ll be having lunch at the pub.”
The town’s only pub, The Pioneer Arms Hotel, was packed to the rafters and doing a roaring trade, particularly during the lunch break.
The QCWA ladies were also enjoying plenty of visitors to their hall on the parade route as were the food and drink stalls.
Diana Collins, who, having lived in Goombungee for the past 35 years is practically considered a “local”, whizzed around the streets toward the rear of the parade in her “purple mobile”.
“It’s always a great day,” she said.
“Goombungee is a wonderful town and this is a great day.”
Though not a local, Selin Thomas probably went the extra mile to celebrate Jacaranda Day.
Having moved to Toowoomba five years ago, Selin said she got a tattoo featuring a Jacaranda tree and a rainbow.
“I love jacaranda trees and we don’t have them in (her native) Turkey,” she said.
