Residents have banded together to bring an Op Shop back to a rural town, in the hopes of generating additional income for the region. Details here

Collectables moves to new premises

Former Rosalie Gallery volunteers are confident of the community’s backing with the official opening of a new op shop, while others close across the district.

The Goombungee Arts and Cultural Enterprise saw a desire to establish another ‘art face’ in the township, though knew they would need a revenue base to provide affordable events.

“The op shop is the first step in our vision,” secretary Bronwyn Holland said.

“It allows us to recreate some of the events and activities we used to do pre-Covid, like our community Christmas.”

Mrs Holland said the group was able to officially open the Not New ... Your Op Shop Experience store through the help of the Goombungee Community Christian Church.

“We’ve had outstanding responses from our community, and there is still a need there for (the shop),” she said.

“We always had good visitation to the previous op shop, and we’re pretty confident that will occur again.

“We know through our involvement with the gallery that Goombungee is a little destination town. The gallery is very popular, so we see the two working together.”

The Not New Op Shop, at 54 Mocatta St, operates 9.30am to 3.30pm, Wednesday to Saturday.
